Press Release Regarding The Colombian Peace Process
No: 200, 26 August 2016
We welcome the conclusion of the negotiations carried out in Havana between the Colombian Government and the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) with a consensus reached on a peace agreement. It is our sincere expectation that the subsequent phases of the process will also be finalized successfully.
An important step was taken for the stability of the region with this agreement, which will ensure that Colombia, by leaving behind a tragic period, which lasted more than half a century and led to death of more than 220.000 people and displacement of millions of people, will head for a tranquil and prosperous future.
Turkey makes concrete contribution to the peace process through a diplomat assigned by the Organization of American States (OAS) to the Mission to Support the Peace Process in Colombia (MAPP). Turkey will continue its financial support in 2016 as well. Construction work of a primary school undertaken by the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) in Colombia’s Orejon region, which was considerably damaged by the conflict, is underway.
Turkey will continue its support to the lasting peace by realizing various cooperation projects as it has always been the case in the past.
